Which type of Quilt is right for me?

There are so many different types of fillings and styles available that it can often be hard to decide which quilt/doona is best suited to your needs. Here, we’ve explained everything you need to know about the different types of fill, so you can make an informed decision that will help you sleep in optimal comfort:

Goose down is often the preferable filler for winter quilts when you want to retain maximum heat. Down is lighter and softer retaining more air (loft) making it warmer when it’s needed, without feeling extra weight. Goose down responds to a sleeper's body temp and generates loft and heat accordingly, you rarely overheat in quality goose down. The feather used with quilts is only additional fill and has no essential warming properties- that is the magic of down.

Cotton quilts are ideal for summer. Cotton is also a natural fibre so once again allergy sufferers can purchase a cotton doona without hesitating, thinking about how it will affect their sleep. Cotton is a light, breathable material that feels nice against the skin and will not generate heat while you sleep

Microfibre

While microfibre bedding is much cheaper than quilts filled and manufactured using natural fibres, you really need to consider what you will be needing the doona for and whether or not you want something that is going to last you for many years or something just to tide you over. Microfibre quilts are good for rental properties, holiday accommodation, first quilts, vegans ( no animal products used) or allergy sufferers.
Be aware that they do tend to generate heat without the breathability so they can be overly warm and overheating is a big sleep disturber. Natural fibres, on the other hand are well known for their ability to wick away heat
