COTTON 

Cotton sheets are designed with the sleeper’s utmost comfort in mind. There are 2 main styles of weave - Percale and Sateen. Percale has a crisp, cool handle while Sateen, as the name implies is smooth and silky to the touch. Pure Egyptian cotton (from Egypt) is one of the best textiles to consider when buying cotton sheets. Natural Egyptian cotton has long staples/fibres, due to the wet growing conditions which means the finished product is superior and does not pill. Inferior short staple will cotton pill - pills are little visible knots on your sheeting - that is the breaking of the cotton thread due to the short fibres 

Genuine Egyptian cotton sheets are beautiful to sleep in as they are breathable and wick away heat. Depending on the weave they can be silky (sateen) or crisp (percale) 

Thread count is a very popular way to judge cotton sheets HOWEVER the quality of the cotton is far more important than the thread count. It’s better to have a lower thread count (200-300tc) of quality cotton than higher tc of inferior cotton- Pilling!! The clever marketing of ‘bigger is better’ in terms of numbers seems to have stuck with thread count and it's not always the case. We recommend that you don't count the threads, feel them!
